The February 2019 International Potluck presented a first for this organization. Due to a blizzard we had to postpone the event from its originally scheduled Feb. 7 date to the next night Feb. 8. It was held at the Dakota Medical Foundation in Fargo.
The event featured Dr. Gatluak Thach, the founder of the Nashville International Center for Empowerment or NICE. Dr. Thach is a refugee and immigrant rights activist who serves on the boards of director for several organizations including the Sudanese Human Rights Organization, Advisory Council of Tennessee Department of Children’s Services, Mayor’s New American Council, Tennessee for All of Us, Nashville Area Habitat for Humanity, Sudanese Presbyterian Church, Alliance for South Sudanese in Diaspora, South Sudan Relief Rehabilitation Agency – USA and Volar Collegiate Academy.
Dr. Thach authored "My New American Dream" and "Life of the Leader." His upcoming books include: “The Sustainable Integration for New Hope and Why My People Continue to Suffer in South Sudan.” Dr. Thach is an expert in community and organizational development, program and budget planning and management, strategic planning, collaboration, and partnership building, resource development (grant writing), executive coaching, advocacy, and executive coaching.
Organizer Nyamal Dei wrote on Facebook about the event: "We want to say thank you for coming out to the potluck and we apologized for changing the date, but this is due to weather. We appreciate you all for the support and for coming to see Dr. Thach speaks. We like appreciate our sponsors, because this event won't happened without them being part of it. So, thank you."
