FARGO – Award-winning filmmaker Faraz Arif Ansari will be joining the Fargo-Moorhead LGBT Film Festival on Tuesday, Oct. 1, at Stoker's Lounge in the Hotel Donaldson, 101 Boradway N.
Ansari will be speaking as part of a fundraiser for the FM LGBT Film Festival. Appetizers will be provided. There is a suggested donation of $55 for the event, which begins at 5:30 p.m.
An intimate screening of his film "SISAK," winner of 59 international awards, will take place followed by a conversation about the film, the LGBTQ+ community, and the importance of socially relevant cinema. The evening will end with a special preview of his next project, "SHEER QORMA," staring Shabana Azmi, Divya Dutta and Swara Bhasker. "SHEER QORMA" is a story of love and acceptance told through characters that are queer Muslim women of color.
Ansari is joining the FM LGBT Film Festival from Mumbai, India, as part of the final series of festival runs for "SISAK." Setting a milestone for Indian cinema, "SISAK" became the first Indian film to win 59 international awards. "SISAK" is also the first-of-its-kind silent LGBTQ+ film in India. In 2017, SISAK was awarded Best Narrative Short Film at both the FM LGBT Film Festival and the North Dakota Human Rights Film Festival.
All donations from the evening will be used to support the FM LGBT Film Festival's work to bring relevant queer film to Fargo-Moorhead. For more information about the evening, contact Sean Coffman at sean@human-family.org.
